We’re a simple fan base. Give us one glimmer of hope and we’re dancing with a hula hoop around our necks and attempting backflips off a two foot wall. And the best part? We’re respectful — we don’t act the complete bol***ks like certain other nations we won’t mention.
All we need is a big screen, a decent pint, and that tiny spark that convinces us that we CAN take part… maybe not take over.
Everyone’s still chasing that old Italia ’90 buzz — the roar that used to shake the windows of the Kestrel House in Walkinstown (RIP). Loads of us don’t fully remember 2002 in South Korea, and maybe a few still weren’t old enough for a pint at Euro 2016, so here are the official Chalk & Cheese picks for watching Ireland vs Hungary tomorrow.
1. Murray’s Sports Bar – O’Connell Street (D1)
This place turns into a full-on fan zone on match nights. That huge outdoor screen is unreal — the atmosphere gets absolutely electric. Packed, loud, green shirts everywhere, and the second Ireland get a sniff on goal the place goes ballistic. Serious limbs.
2. The Camden – Camden Street (D2)
One of the best setups in the country. A massive indoor screen, booming sound system, and the whole thing feels like a cinema built for football. It’s not the cheapest spot, but the experience is ridiculous. Proper big-game energy.
3. Sinnott’s – King Street (D2)
A Dublin staple. Wall-to-wall TVs, huge crowds, and that classic sports bar roar you can feel in your chest. It fills up fast for Ireland games and the atmosphere is chaos in the best way possible.
4. The Woolshed – Parnell Street (D1)
A guaranteed lively one. Loads of screens, international buzz, and a crowd that fully commits to the madness. Always hopping for football — loud, colourful, sweaty and brilliant.
5. The Orchard – Rathfarnham (D14)
A top Southside pick. Big screens, great pints, plenty of room and a crowd that actually watches the match. When Ireland score, this place erupts without any of the city-centre stress. A perfect number five.
