A Major Blow for Irish Tourism in 2025

As a teenager and well into my early twenties, my appreciation for three Jägerbombs for a tenner in D2 far outweighed any interest in Irish landmarks. I was more ignorant than someone playing a movie on full volume without headphones mid-flight.

But as time’s gone on, I’ve slowly started to cop onto just how unreal this country is. Ireland’s beauty is honestly unmatched — rolling green fields, sound people, and some of the most incredible tourist attractions you’ll find anywhere in the world. The kind of places that make you stop, take a breath, and realise you don’t need to fly twelve hours for something magical.

That’s why it’s a real shame to hear that one of our most iconic landmarks — a place people travel across the world to see — is now facing partial closure. In February 2025, it was announced that major sections of the Cliffs of Moher Coastal Trail would remain shut for the rest of the year due to safety concerns. An inspection flagged several issues that needed urgent attention to protect visitors.

That said, the Cliffs themselves — including the main viewing areas and visitor centre — are still fully open to the public. You can still experience the views and the atmosphere, just without access to parts of the trail. Best to check ahead if you’re planning a visit.
