La Peniche- The Restaurant That Will Float Your Boat

Before stepping aboard La Peniche, the best thing I’d ever eaten on a boat was a packet of Rancheros and a Mars Delight (RIP) on the ferry to Holyhead. Thankfully, this floating restaurant on Dublin’s Grand Canal has raised the bar—literally and metaphorically, as I am now an adult, the food was terrific, and they served me wine (so there was actually a fairly decent bar selection).
A lovingly restored cargo barge (MV Riasc), La Peniche is moored on Mespil Road, offering top-tier food with a side of 18th-century bridges and lock-sailing action. Whether you’re there for a casual dinner, a special occasion, or just to feel fancier than you actually are, this place delivers.
Paul and I went for the €49 dinner special, kicking things off with Salmon Rillette With Sourdough Bread and a cheeseboard before diving into Seabass and Confit Duck Leg (menu is subject to change). We wrapped it up with Baileys Crème brûlée and Chocolate Cake—paired perfectly with wine, because, listen we were always giving it a proper go.
If you fancy dinner with a view (and one that moves), La Peniche is worth checking out.
