Everyone’s got a few social media skeletons rattling around. If you’re my age, that usually means a Facebook photo from an underage disco in 2011 — your mate with a funny looking cigarette behind his ear , a V haircut, a purple streak, and a Duffer tracksuit so outrageous it could start a fire in the nightclub.

The point is: somewhere deep in your old social media is something your nanny wouldn’t be proud of — and US immigration definitely won’t be either.

The U.S. Embassy in Dublin has confirmed that anyone applying for a J1, or F and M visas, now has to submit every social media handle they’ve used in the last five years. And yes, even if your name is selenagomezfan2020, you still have to declare it. And it has to be public. “Forgetting” one? That could get you banned — now or in future.

That tweet from 2015 you thought was gas, or a comment you left at 13 on someone’s wall? They’re looking at that now.

The Taoiseach’s already called the move over the top, and student unions reckon it’ll put people off going altogether.

If you’re dreaming of a summer in San Diego — be careful with the content you once put up.. time has a funny way of causing memory loss.
