I Don’t Like Cricket, I LOVE It- A Fantastic Afternoon Full of Rum, Runs and Rain

Clontarf might not be the first place you think of when someone says “cricket match with a Caribbean twist,” but on Sunday it was exactly that — and then some. The final game of the Ireland v West Indies ODI series bowled into town, with the Windies clawing back a well-earned win to draw the series 1-1. (Technically Friday was a washout but sure isn’t that tradition at this stage.)

Paul and I were delighted to be in attendance as part of Chalk and Cheese Travels (C&CT) — a bit of Barbados in the heart of Dublin? Say no more.

The real winner on the day though? The company.

Despite the classic Irish drizzle, spirits weren’t dampened thanks to the sunshine hospitality of Barbados’ Ambassador to Ireland, Cleviston Haynes, and the lovely crew at BTMI — Elan Mottley Harris and Cedric Lynch — who brought serious island warmth to Castle Avenue.

TravelMedia.ie’s Colm McDonnell and Susan Craddock also kept the innings running smoothly with top-notch organisation. Cricket, rum, and unreal hospitality — it’s not a bad way to spend a Sunday.

Barbados tourism and two Irish lads just learning the rules of cricket might seem like chalk and cheese — but together they hit it for six.
