Ireland officially has the sixth most valuable minimum wage in the world. From January 2025, the rate jumped by 80 cent to €13.50 an hour. Sounds great on paper.. but this is where it gets tricky.

Dr Laura Bambrick, Head of Policy at the Irish Congress of Trade Unions, put it bluntly: Irish workers face crippling food and housing costs. So even though the wage is high, the bills are higher.

Bottom line? Ireland’s minimum wage looks to be desirable, but the cost of living keeps it from feeling like anything liveable in this current economy
