Hold onto your shopping bags; Dublin’s iconic Victorian fruit and veg market is finally getting a €26 million revamp—and if you’re looking for your next Instagram backdrop, this could be it. Think Victorian arches, neon lights, and street food stalls, serving up the type of food that demands both hands and zero shame. What was once a hub for fruit and veg is about to become a paradise for foodies, with stalls dishing out fare that’s a little bit more complex than a peach and a handful of grapes.

Located beside Capel Street, the building has been through the wars—vandalism, neglect, even a fire—yet it’s somehow still in better nick than Old Trafford. Having shut its doors in 2019, the market has spent the last few years as a storage unit, occasional event space, and even a film set. But by the end of 2027, it will reopen as a quintessentially Irish food hall, with up to 80 stalls serving local produce. Dublin City Council’s plan also includes space for community growers, startups, and established food businesses—some even making their goods on-site.

It’s been a long road—this project has stalled more times than a learner driver at the Walkinstown roundabout—but the finish line is finally in sight. The council has stated that it’ll be ready by 2027, and while we’re cautiously optimistic, one thing is for sure: we’ll be first in line to catch a glimpse of what’s in store, and we will be sure to document the best it has to offer in the process (definitely not eating the food and buying it with the company card).
