House prices in Ireland keep climbing but not as fast. The CSO says they were up 7.5 per cent in July, a small dip from 7.9 per cent in June. Dublin homes rose 6 per cent while outside the capital it was even steeper at 8.7 per cent. The median home now costs €374,999. In Dún Laoghaire Rathdown that will barely get you a garden shed at €675,000 while in Donegal or Leitrim the median is €195,000.
The priciest Eircode is Blackrock’s A94 at a jaw dropping €795,000. The cheapest is Castlerea’s F45 at €150,000 which is practically a steal.
July saw 1,876 first time buyers jump in with €2.1 billion worth of sales overall. Experts reckon the summer slowdown is just a blip and prices could rise again come autumn.
Bottom line? Unless your mam and dad are bankrolling you buying a home still feels like winning the Lotto.
