Sun of a Beach: The Best Beaches in Ireland That’ll Make You Forget the Weather

Despite Ireland often being colder than a mother-in-law’s embrace, when the sun decides to grace us with its presence, this country genuinely looks like a postcard. One of the biggest standouts? The beaches.

Whether you’re a full-blown surf brah, a sandcastle enthusiast, or just an optimistic sun worshipper who thinks 14 degrees and a breeze means tanning weather — here are five of the most beautiful beaches in Ireland.

1. Keem Bay, Achill Island, Mayo

Looks like it was robbed straight from the Amalfi Coast. White sand, turquoise water, and if the sun’s out, it’s paradise. If it’s not, the drive alone is pure magic.

2. Dog’s Bay, Connemara, Galway

Shaped like a horseshoe and full of bright white shell-sand, this one’s a stunner. On a good day, it’ll have you thinking you’re in the Caribbean — until someone in a Monterex rain jacket reminds you you’re not.

3. Curracloe, Wexford

Star of Saving Private Ryan, but these days it’s more about saving your weekend. Massive dunes, long walks, and if you’re lucky, a 99 that’s 80% whipped cream, 20% nostalgia.

4. Whiterocks Beach, Antrim

Golden sand, big cliffs, clear water — it’s like Portrush’s answer to Bondi, minus the sunburn and influencers.

5. Rossnowlagh, Donegal

Surfer’s dream. You can drive onto the beach, lash on a wetsuit, and pretend you’re in California… until a seagull robs your Dubai chocolate-loaded waffle stack (or whatever phase we’re in now) and your dignity with it.

Whether you’re in it for the sea, the sand, or just the bag of chips after — Ireland’s beaches never miss. Even if the weather does.
