Tacos Lupillo- The Best Mexican Food in Ireland

Back in 2000s Dublin, the closest thing you were getting to Mexican food was a cardboard Old El Paso kit from the local supermarket—four stale wraps, a packet of peppery powder, and a step-by-step guide politely asking you to go out and buy everything else yourself. Cheers for the homework. It was about as Mexican as those “traditional Irish stews” served in bread bowls in Times Square, with three carrots and a questionable chunk of meat.
Thankfully, times have changed. Tacos Lupillo, tucked beside Cleary’s Pub on Sarsfield Road in Kilmainham, is the real deal. Run by Jose Guadalupe Zamudio, whose family have been cooking in Mexico for generations, this place isn’t messing about and is getting more popular by the day.
Paul and I didn’t play it safe on the company card—we ordered every taco on the menu. Pastor pork in house marinade, Piri Piri chicken, chilli con carne, barbacoa steak, and spicy chorizo. Every bite landed. The meats were tender, seasoned to perfection, and the tortillas were fresh and warm, like they were made ten minutes before hand.
This isn’t “good for Dublin”—it’s top-class Mexican food, full stop. Queues are already forming. If you’re smart, get down to that pink door before it’s packed out. You’ll be glad you did.
