The City Quietly Replacing Prague — Without the Price Tag

Let’s be honest—Dublin prices have us treating a pint like a rare antique. So when we heard there’s a place with golden beaches, €3 drinks, and flights for €58? Pack the suncream, we’re off to Riga.
Latvia’s capital is like someone dropped a holiday movie set beside a 20-mile stretch of pristine coastline. Jurmala Beach is just a short train from the city and feels like Dollymount’s rich cousin—clean, peaceful, and not a vape in sight. Then there’s Saulkrasti, which literally means “sunny coast” and looks like it was designed by God after watching The Talented Mr. Ripley.
Back in town, Riga’s Old Town has spires, cobblestones, and cafés that add an extra dimension to your trip and make you feel like you’ve wandered onto the set of a artsy European indie film—except here the food is class and the bill won’t ruin your month.
And the nightlife? Picture Temple Bar before the €10 pints. Pub crawls are flying, clubs go late, and pints start at €3—less than a flat white in any coffee shop.
So if you want beaches, booze, and culture with enough change left for a garlic cheese chip when you land, Riga is your new go-to.
Get in before it becomes the “next Prague” and your Ryanair flight costs more than your hotel.
