A full Irish breakfast is more than just a feed — it’s a staple of our culture. Whether you’re kicking off a hard day’s graft (though fair warning: you might need a siesta after it) or curing a Saturday night of sins, there’s a magic to that sizzling sound of sausages, rashers and pudding that could wake St. Patrick himself.

Sure, depending on where you are in the country, bits get swapped or added — some spots go rogue with hash browns, others skip the beans — but one thing’s for sure: when you’re abroad and spot a “Full English” on the menu, you’re still ordering the Irish… EVEN if they’re confused.

After two years of travelling the country and dodging heartburn like pros, here are our top five full Irish breakfasts that hit the holy trinity — proper portions, unreal flavour, and the kind of plate that demands respect (and maybe a lie-down after).

  1. Hard Boiled Egg Café – Cavan

Portions bigger than your future. Unreal sausages and home of the Guinness World Record for the biggest breakfast challenge. Go hungry — or go home.

  1. Lark Cafe Restaurant – Terenure, Dublin

A local gem with consistency you could set your watch to. The full Irish here never misses. Proper contender for Dublin’s best.

  1. Rollin Bean – Main Street, Wexford

The breakfast comes with tea or coffee, lovely atmosphere and service. And if you’ve a sweet tooth, the pastry selection is outrageous.

  1. Jay Kay’s Café – Millennium Walkway, Dublin

Crepes are class, but the full Irish here is the Brad Pitt of fry-ups — all looks and plenty of substance.

  1. Tony’s Bistro – Cork

Big portions, big hearts. A UCC student staple. Staff are sound, and if you’ve the liathróidí, take on their legendary food challenge.
