The U.S. is floating a new proposal that could make your next trip to New York feel more like a deep dive into your own internet shame. Under plans from U.S. Customs and Border Protection, all tourists including visa free travellers from Ireland may soon have to hand over five years of social media history along with old emails and phone numbers before they are allowed in.
So if you are still lurking in that one dodgy WhatsApp group where your eccentric mate gets a bit too excited at 2am, now might be the time to quietly delete as you go. At this stage the Americans may as well ask for your McDonald’s order and your Spotify Wrapped from 2021 just to confirm you are not a threat. Although if your top artist was Pitbull they might have a point.
Travel prep just became a whole new sport.
